Vasil Bojkov

The world of Thrace is so mysterious, intriguing, and full of heroes, legends, and stories that it has occupied the minds of people from all around the world. Collectors are trapped in continuous competitions of who will own the next extraordinary example of the Thracian culture, archeologists are in search for more and more artifacts belonging to that particular period of the past, art curators are awaiting exhibitions that will mesmerize the public. And among all of these people, there is Vasil Bojkov – the man who owns an exquisite collection of over 3000 antique valuables.

What is truly impressive about the richest Bulgarian and collector is the fact that he doesn’t keep these treasures to himself. On the contrary. He is willingly sharing the pieces he owns with historians, gallerists, archeologists, mythology fans, history, and culture lovers, and admirers of art in general. Just a few months ago, he put on display 62 of his ancient Thracian artifacts at the National Gallery of Art and the question here is why?

He is a person who doesn’t forget to give, especially when it comes to his motherland Bulgaria and his fellow citizens. Not too long ago it came out that he refused to build a museum in New York, displaying all the pieces that he owned. Another interesting fact is that Vasil Bojkov even turned down an offer of $300 000 000 for his private collection suggested by an Arabian Sheikh.  As a philanthropist and patriot, he knows that doing something for others is something far more precious than simply doing something for oneself. It is larger than anything else in this world.

And maybe because of this, he decided to showcase over 60 ancient valuables at the National Art Gallery in Sofia in March this year. This is not the first exhibition of this kind organized by him as several others took place some time ago as well. However, this one exhibition titled the ‘The Golden Fleece. The Quest of the Argonauts’, was really special because of several things. Firstly, it included 17 pieces that were displayed to the public for the very first time. Secondly, it was accompanied by a series of other events such as public discussions, lectures, special curator talks, 360 degrees online tour on the Thrace Foundation website, different catalogues and publications available on the Internet for the first time, and many more. The interest in it was so high that the final date of the event was extended until the end of June.

Thanks to the philanthropist and patriotism of Vasil Bojkov, people from Bulgaria, Greece, Macedonia, and other different countries got this rare chance to visit a world of glorious past, amazing artistry, culture, myths, stories, past events, and ancient heroes. By displaying these magnificent objects, Bojkov displayed customs, social values, religions, and politics all in one place. He gathered pieces from the past and indulged the present in a way that will be told from generations to generations.

This is something truly unique. It brought people together, empowered them with knowledge, and enabled them to take an unforgettable journey back in time.

Retail Giants Gear Up For Earnings; Walmart & Ross Leads, Target Lags Behind

This week, several key players in the retail sector are slated to reveal their quarterly earnings. The spotlight is on companies navigating these turbulent waters in a year marked by economic challenges and fluctuating consumer confidence. Those prioritizing discount goods over discretionary items have emerged as industry leaders. Predicting Earnings Surprises   Investors eyeing these retail giants have a powerful tool at their disposal—Zacks Earnings ESP (Expected Surprise Prediction). This tool aims to identify companies experiencing positive earnings estimate revisions, leveraging the belief that recent information holds predictive power during earnings season. Historically, combining a Zacks Rank #3 or better with a positive Earnings ESP has yielded positive surprises 70% of the time, boasting a 28.3% average annual return over a 10-year period. https://twitter.com/anycurrencynews/status/1725133408811065432?s=20 Earnings Anticipation In Retail   In the challenging landscape of retail, this year has been a litmus test for what resonates with consumers. Despite varied stock performances, all eyes are on a group of retailers forecasted to beat earnings estimates, indicating a bullish sentiment among analysts. Walmart   Walmart, a standout performer this year with a 20.3% year-to-date rally, holds a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy). The retail giant's strategic focus on discount offerings and a robust e-commerce expansion have contributed to its success. Walmart's Q3 earnings report, set for November 16, is anticipated to exceed estimates, with a Zacks ESP forecasting a 0.8% beat. The TJX Companies   Benefiting from its discount pricing strategy, TJX Companies has seen an 18% YTD gain. Operating across 4,900 stores in nine countries, this off-price retailer is set to report earnings on November 15. The Zacks ESP projects a 2.6% earnings beat, reflecting a mixed earnings outlook. Ross Stores   With a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy), Ross Stores has capitalized on the discount retail trend, gaining 10% YTD. Expected to report on November 16, the Zacks ESP suggests a 2.08% earnings beat. Ross Stores offers in-season, branded, and designer merchandise at prices 20% to 60% below regular department store rates. Target   Facing headwinds this year, Target's stock has dipped by -23.7% YTD. Target reported on November 15 that it had experienced a significant drop in comparable sales as consumers cut back on discretionary spending. Despite a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell), indicating falling earnings estimates, there's a glimmer of hope with a Zacks Earnings ESP projecting a 1.97% earnings beat. While Walmart continues to lead the pack, Target's dip in valuation raises questions about its future trajectory. Investors are advised to stay vigilant and monitor shifts in earnings estimates for potential investment opportunities in this dynamic retail landscape. Causes and Consequences of Fake Health News

The term “Fake News” has been around since the 1800s, but it made quite a resurgence in the last five to ten years. Most stories deemed “fake news” by one side of the political aisle or the other tend to be done so as a defense mechanism against an article that paints an individual or political party in a negative light, with the consequence to society being nothing more than confusion as to what is true and what is not. When health news can no longer be trusted, the consequence to society can be much more severe, and it is becoming a bit of a dangerous trend, fueled by partisanship in politics. Generally, mainstream media outlets like television and print journalism maintain enough journalistic integrity to avoid spreading fake health news, but in the land of social media marketing, the fake stories can run rampant with just the click of a button. The Causes The cut-and-dry cause of fake health news is the almighty dollar. More shares and more likes equal more opportunities to sell advertising, and it’s no secret that the healthcare industry (and pharma, more specifically) spends a lot of money on advertising. With every click meaning potential money, it’s no surprise that lesser “news” services would embellish, or outright lie, to pad their following. A fake article posted on a site called “Natural News” about how the cancer industry was a scam to make money got an astounding 5.4 million hits, and the site’s Facebook page ballooned to more than 3 million followers. Popularity pays, and a general rule of monetization for the social media influencer is they can expect to be paid about $10 for every 1,000 for sponsored content, and it normally maxes out around the 1 million marks, where influencers can make about $1,000 per post, based solely off of advertising that can be made to followers who engage the content. The Consequences As the social media universe continues to grow and grow, so does the potential for the spread of fake news, and it’s an issue that must be focused on, as the consequences are very real, and sometimes fatal. Even the stories that don’t cause direct harm, like one that received over 800,000 engagements claiming that ginger was a better alternative to cancer than chemo, still direct people away from proper care related to their ailments. Especially for patients with terminal illnesses, hope is truly all they have. So other seemingly innocuous stories like someone developing a cure for diabetes in Mexico can give false hope to those who have nothing else. The worst, of course, are those fake news stories that encourage the use of products that have not been approved by the FDA. Though these types of stories generally tend to stay on social media, even the president of the United States was on record encouraging the use of a chemical to fight COVID-19, when said chemical had been shown to increase the chance of heart attack in clinical trials and was not deemed safe for such use. The Cure Again, pertaining to the potential of worldwide growth that social media has, the best way to stymie the spread of fake news is to educate about its dangers so it does not become a generational issue, as many other things based on false information and fear have become in the United States. As far as fixing the spread of fake health news now, many of the prominent social media outlets are flagging posts with false or misleading information. As the issue with fake news is that people believe in it because they like reading things that follow their own, predetermined beliefs, it will be very difficult for the government to regulate what can and can’t be shared on any new social media sites that make a vow to not flag any content… again, a move motivated by money.
