Mountains

Mountaineers will tell many a tale about the highest mountains they have climbed, how long it took them, and will tell you at great length about the training and diets they undertook to get them ready for the climb. Well, this article informs the eager traveler about three of the world’s highest peaks, Everest, K2, and Kangchenjunga.

Mount Everest (Sagarmatha):

Mount Everest

This is part of the Mahalangur Himalayas and lies between China and Nepal. In fact, their border runs along with the summit point. It is 8,844 m in height (rock height) according to the Chinese and this has been accepted by the Nepalese. Everest is every mountaineer’s dream rock to climb. To date, around 300 people have died to try to climb it and many have suffered severely from altitude sickness.

Things to Do

The Tengboche Monastery is a beautiful building near the base camp. The wood-carved decor is impressive and the walls are adorned with many paintings of Buddha. There is a bakery below the monastery run by the monks which apparently sells a great apple pie. The monks will also tell you about the history of the monastery and the area too.

The Namche Bazaar is the last resort stop where mountaineers shop before the climb to Everest and as a result have a wide variety of things that can be bought. It is, however, obviously more expensive than normal.

Places to Stay

The closest places to stay are in the Sagarmatha (Everest) National Park which is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. It has a Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor. Hotel Everest View is one of these hotels at just under a mile from the mountain and at 13,000 ft is the highest hotel in the world. It is a luxury hotel and serves some of the best food in the region of Khumbu. It has views of Everest from every room. It also has Wi-Fi.

Khumbu Resort at 8.3 miles away is also a good hotel offering nice food and clean, comfortable rooms at a reasonable price.

Places to Eat and Drink

Hotel Everest View has great food and currently offers Japanese food amongst other dishes. Other options are the Sherpa Barista Bakery, Food & Coffee Shop which is a few miles away, and in the top 2 places to eat and drink in that area.

K2:

K2

K2 is part of the Baltoro Karakoram range of mountains and is on the China-Pakistan border. At 8,611m it is the second-highest mountain in the world. It has a particularly hard ascent and as a result of this is known as the “Savage Mountain”. Out of the highest mountains in the world, it has the second-highest death rate of climbers. The best times to try to climb it are in July and August as these are the warmest months.

Things to Do

The Central Karakoram National Park is located in Pakistan in the Gilgit-Baltistan area. Trekking and rock climbing are some of the things that can be done as well as spotting animals such as the snow leopard and ibex if the visitor is lucky enough and patient enough.

The Kaberi Glacier in Pakistan is at 4448m and quite a sight covering an area of 71.96km. It is also in the Gilgit-Baltistan area.

Places to Stay

The Gilgit Serena Hotel in Pakistan comes in at no 1 in the TripAdvisor rankings. It also has a Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor. Its location places it conveniently at 2 miles from Gilgit airport. The views of the mountains are spectacular and the food is good and wholesome.

The Hunza Serena Inn in Hunza, Pakistan, is also no1 in its area according to TripAdvisor, and is in a beautiful setting surrounded by orchards of apple trees and apricots with the mountains as a beautiful backdrop.

Places to Eat and Drink

The Gilgit Serena Hotel already mentioned has good quality food and is probably the best in the area. There are many other lodges and inns but this seems to be the best for food and accommodation.

Kangchenjunga:

Kangchenjunga

This mountain lies on the border of Nepal and India and is the world’s third-highest. Its peak lies at 8,586m above sea level and is part of the Himalayas residing in an area called Kangchenjunga Himal. It is the tradition of climbers to stop short of the top so that it remains untouched and as a result is not worn down.

Interestingly there are three different areas of vegetation surrounding the mountain. There are broad-leaved, coniferous forests, meadows containing alpine shrubs and savanna and grasslands (Terai-Duar).

Things to Do

In nearby Sikkim, India, there are plenty of things to see and do for the nature lover. Remember that in order to visit India an India e-visa is required, read more for additional queries. There are several wildlife sanctuaries including the Fambong Lho and the Pangolakha. There are also two rhododendron sanctuaries at Barsey and Shingbar and a national park at Khangchendzonga, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Places to Eat and Drink

The Coffee Shop and Restaurant in Gangtok serves coffee and Italian food. It is ranked no 1 in this area in TripAdvisor. it has exceptional pizzas according to travelers and amazing coffee.

The Cafe Live and Loud also seems to have the top spot out of Gangtok’s restaurants. It seems slightly more expensive but has music with a good local band.

Where to Stay:

The Lemon Tree Hotel Gangtok has a 5.0 rating on TripAdvisor and is ranked no 1 in the area. It is decorated in the traditional style of the area and has stunning views of the mountains. It is close to Kanchenjunga National Park and boasts a swimming pool (outdoors), Wi-Fi, and a fully equipped gym.

Top 5 Ways to Avoid Canada Immigration Consultancy Frauds

Immigrating to a different country is usually an engaging and exhausting process, and you need to employ the services of an immigration company. As if the process itself is not vigorous enough, you also need to choose from the tens of immigration companies available. If you are intending to move to Canada, you should be particularly on the lookout for unscrupulous individuals who are out to steal from you in the name of helping you move into the country. Many people have lost money and wasted valuable time and resources to fake Canada immigration consultants. That’s why you need to take these measures to avoid these scams and have a seamless and worthwhile experience while immigrating to Canada. 1. Look for Licensing and ICCRC Membership: One of the leading ways to spot a scam immigration company is that they will not be licensed. Only companies that are registered and have received a license to offer immigration consultancy services are legitimate.  Avoid consultancy firms that promise to be legit but have no valid license as proof of their authenticity. Additionally, you may want to check that the company is a member of the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC) and has a good record with the body. Firms that are not registered under this body or which have a bad record may end up letting you down in the end. 2. Stay Away from Sweet Deals: Most immigration fraudsters offer sweet deals that are meant to entice potential immigrants and encourage them to seek immigration services from their firms. For example, a company may promise faster processing of your immigration application, successful applications, and job offers with no interviews. All these promises are usually untrue and meant to scam you of your hard-earned cash. Only the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) offices have the ability to determine application processing times, including whether it will be approved or rejected. Remember, you won’t be getting a job without attending an interview. Therefore, if anyone promises you these things, they are scammers. 3. Don’t Click on Phishing Emails: Canada immigration consultancy fraudsters have for a long time used phishing to con unsuspecting immigrants. You open your email and find mail from a consultancy company offering immigration services. Before getting all excited that you have found an immigration company without breaking a sweat, think twice. Most legitimate companies will not send you mail unless you subscribed to their mailing list. Whoever is emailing you is probably a con, and you should desist from replying to that email or providing any of your personal or bank info. 4. Do Online Research: The Internet is a goldmine of information, and it can save you from falling into the traps of unscrupulous Canada immigration consultants. There are various sites that allow you to research and find out whether an immigration consultancy firm is legitimate. You can also get online reviews of individuals who have used the services of these firms. Steer clear of firms that have been labeled as illegitimate. What’s more, avoid those that have low star ratings (below 3 stars) as the chances are that previous clients have had bad experiences with them. If you are deciding to move to Canada, you need to be aware of some of the civil and criminal law systems that operate there. For example, a fraud under $5000 is considered to be a small offense and is termed as usually a civil case. On the other hand, if you are guilty of committing a fraud over the $5000 mark, then the same can be classified as a criminal offense. Make sure you get a complete list of all official and legal rules and regulations from your immigration agency before you step into the country. 5.Get Recommendations: One of the sure ways to avoid being scammed is by getting recommendations from close friends, friends of friends, or family. Do you know someone who immigrated to Canada? If so, they can hook you up with the Canada immigration consultant who helped to process their application. Doing this helps you to get first-hand information on how the company is, their customer service, and reliability. Additionally, you can also learn what is required during the application process. Final Thoughts: Fraudsters are out to con Canada immigrants by making promises such as faster processing of applications, cheap deals, and even free jobs. Save yourself from these scams by observing the highlighted measures. Beware of companies that ask for an upfront payment that is not indicated on the IRCC website. If you aren’t sure about the legitimacy of a firm, check online, ask your friends, and look for valid ICCRC membership. Nativity Scene Invokes Simplicity And Joy Pope At Audience

Nativity Scene Invokes Simplicity And Joy: Pope At Audience

At the General Audience, Pope Francis has reflected on the first Nativity scene that was created 800 years ago by St Francis in the small Italian town of Greccio. Pope Francis returned to the image of the creche which was inaugurated 800 years ago by St Francis of Assisi. The Pope explained the reason behind organizing a living Nativity in the small UMbrian town pf Greccio. He said, St. Francis was not trying “to create a beautiful work of art, but, through the Nativity scene, to provoke amazement at the extreme humility of the Lord, at the hardships He suffered, for love of us, in the poor grotto of Bethlehem.” He identified two characteristics of the Nativity scene: soberness and joy. The first characteristic is starkly in contrast to the reality of Christmas given the hyper-consumerism that the holiday now signifies. He proclaimed that “the Nativity scene was created to bring us back to what truly matters: to God Who comes to dwell among us.” The Pope further said that the Nativity scene is not just for children but adults too. “Children — but adults too! — often love to add to the Nativity scene other figures that have no apparent connection with the Gospel accounts. “Yet, each in its own way, these fanciful additions show that in the new world inaugurated by Jesus there is room for whatever is truly human and for all God’s creatures. From the shepherd to the blacksmith, from the baker to the musicians, from the women carrying jugs of water to the children at play: [A]ll this speaks of the everyday holiness, the joy of doing ordinary things in an extraordinary way, born whenever Jesus shares his divine life with us.” Eight centuries later in Greccio, the Franciscan friars have rejoined the Nativity scene themselves.
