Washing Your Car: 7 Dos and Don’ts

Car Washing

There are many benefits to washing your car on your own. For one, it will save you money. For another, automatic car washes may actually cause some tiny damages to your car that you may not notice immediately; car wash employees may also not be as careful as you when washing your car. Washing your car on your own also allows you to give your vehicle a once-over that may reveal small problems, which you can then resolve ASAP.

The problem with DIY car washing is that many people are used to some practices that may actually be damaging to your car. To help you become a car-washing pro, here are some do’s and don’ts that you have to keep in mind.

Do A Pre-Wash Shower :

This is an important step, since this dislodges stubborn dirt, mud, sand, and other debris, giving you an overall easier time washing. Loosening these particles will also prevent scratches on the paint job since you don’t have to “dig” before you can get them off.

Do: Use the Right Soap :

Dish detergents are formulated to strip grease from your plates and cookware. Laundry detergents are meant to loosen dirt and stains from fabrics. So why do some people think that it is okay to use these soaps on cars? The chemicals in these detergents are harsh enough to strip off the wax of your car and may even damage the paint. There are specially formulated car soaps/shampoos — these are the ONLY things that you should use to lather up and wash your car.

Do: Wipe with Microfiber Cloths :

Do: Wipe with Microfiber Cloths :

Sponges and other clothes are made of fabrics that may be too abrasive to your car’s paint. Make sure to use microfiber towels for your car for both soapings up and drying your car after a thorough rinse. Microfiber cloths are designed to lift dirt away from the surface, so they don’t scratch while you are scrubbing. They are also much more absorbent compared to other fabrics, so you will be able to dry your car much faster. Make sure to use separate cloths for washing and drying.

Do: Dry Everything Completely :

Make sure that you dry everything, down to the last nooks and crannies. These include door hinges and handles, windshield wipers, side mirrors, and the underside of the hood. Incomplete drying can cause condensation, rust, and gunk build-up, which can result in both superficial and mechanical damage to your car. You can use microfiber towels to dry many of these parts; for tight corners and spaces, there are squeeze blowers you can use to remove water.

Don’t: Wash Under the Sun :

Properly cleaning your car means keeping it wet throughout the process, drying it only when it has been rinsed completely. This won’t be possible if you wash your car under direct sunlight since it will heat up the metal and cause the water and soap to dry quickly and leave spots on the body, windshield, and windows. Wash your car in the shade or during the early evening to prevent this from happening. You should also wait for your car to cool down first before washing it.

Don’t: Apply Products Directly :

Don’t apply any kind of product directly onto your car. The rule is to always dilute first (if the instructions say so), then apply it onto a cloth, and only then should you’re applying it on your car. Microfiber cloths are again ideal for this purpose. You should also use overlapping circular motions when applying wax or polish to make sure you cover every inch of the car.

Don’t: Use Just One Bucket :

Don’t: Use Just One Bucket

Using just one bucket of water is like putting the dirt back on to your car, which ruins the purpose of cleaning it in the first place. Use two buckets: one for soapy water and the other for rinsing your washcloth before dipping it into the soapy water again.

Following these tips will not only make washing your car a breeze, but you will also make sure that your car looks as good as new for as long as you can.

Checklist For Your Car

Things You Need To Have On Your Checklist For Your Car

Owning a quality automobile provides you with the freedom to navigate the continent. And keeping your vehicle running like new and performing like a champ makes the journey that much better. Yet, many car owners neglect to consider some significant and inexpensive upgrades that they can make to improve the value, performance, and comfort of their vehicles. Let's consider the things you need to have on your checklist for your car below. Things You Need To Have On Your Checklist For Your Car: #1. Laser-Measured Rubber Floor Mats: Like the floors in your home, the carpets of your vehicle take the brunt of the damage. Many car interiors are light-colored and will stain super easily. When you purchase custom laser-measured rubber floor mats, you can keep those carpets looking like new forever. Most car owners don't realize that their carpets are backed with jute padding to absorb sound. This padding material will absorb moisture, grow mildew, and stink if you don't invest in quality floor mats. Most factory floor mats are made out of cloth. Not only are they difficult to keep in place but they also do very little to protect your carpets from water damage. The water will carry the grime that you pick up off the roads into your car and embed it deep in the fibers. It can take a professional carpet shampoo and steam cleaning to restore the appearance of soiled carpets. #2. Seat Covers: Your seats also take a beating. Unless you have rich leather interiors, you should invest in high-quality seat covers to limit damage and wear. Quality neoprene seat covers help to keep your car cool in the summer and retain body heat in the winter. They are also fireproof and waterproof. This means that you can drop a lit cigarette on them or even a drink without staining and ruining your expensive upholstery. Every driver who values their automobile should have a set of high-quality seat covers. #3. Performance Air Filter: One of the biggest hurdles that your engine faces is drawing in enough oxygen to promote proper combustion. Not only does a clogged air filter reduce the responsiveness of acceleration but it also reduces fuel efficiency. This inexpensive upgrade can add a few horses to your powertrain and save you the need for constant checking and cleaning of your factory air filter. It is unclear why everyone hasn't upgraded. #4. Quality Tires: When it comes to cars, there is no single item that faces more wear than tires. Tires are constantly generating heat from the friction created by road contact. If you don't have a set of high-quality tires, the tread will wear down quickly and maybe unevenly. Finding the right tire for your driving needs such as a touring or fuel saver tire can make a big difference in the way your vehicle handles and uses gas. The higher-quality tires don't produce any road-noise, vibrations, or handling issues. They will run great in water, light snow, and even absorb some of the uneven textures of the road. You can purchase a new set of tires and have them installed at Black Label Automotive. They will match you with the ideal tire for your needs and remove the guesswork. #5. Tune-Up: Today's modern vehicles don't have to be tuned up with adjustments as they did in the past. Most of the sensors and operations of the engine are fully automated and require no adjustments to restore optimal performance. However, there are certain wear items that are commonly known to cause performance problems. You may need spark plugs, coolant temperature sensors, or oxygen sensors replaced every so many years. In addition, the fuel filter will need replacement every 3 years or so. Many drivers see significant improvements when they clean their fuel injectors and throttle bodies. #6. Window Tint: Window tinting was once more popular until laws were passed to prevent people from fully tinting their vehicles. Tinting provides valuable protection from UV radiation and heat in the summer. Thanks to the new nano-ceramic tints, you can obtain the same level of protection without the big black film. This nano-ceramic tint is a nearly invisible clear coating that goes on the interior of your windows. It blocks out almost 100 percent of the UV radiation and protects your skin and interior from sun damage. Catalytic Converter Theft

How To Prevent Catalytic Converter Theft

The catalytic converter is an important part of the car that turns the pollutants made from the car into a harmless gas. The converter can take many harmful things like platinum, palladium, and rhodium and then turn them into different gases. While you might not think about this simple part of your car, it’s actually a target for thieves because they can sell it for a large amount of money. If you no longer need your catalytic converter for any reason, Core Masters buys catalytic converters. This guide will cover how to prevent catalytic converter theft as well as explain how to know if your converter has been stolen. How Do I Know If My Catalytic Converter Has Been Stolen? Most of the time, you cannot tell your converter was stolen just by looking at your car. You will probably be able to tell once you start the engine though as the car might make weird noises. When the converter has been removed from the car, the vehicle makes a constant loud roaring noise that becomes louder as you push on the gas pedal. If you drive the car, you will notice it cannot drive smoothly and it will make a weird sputtering noise. Here are some of the other things you can look for when it comes to driving without your converter: Loud roar as you start the car that becomes louder the more you accelerate More exhaust fumes than usual and weird exhaust smells You notice there are missing parts under the car especially the ones that lead to the muffler Acceleration that is sputtering or uneven The check engine light is on or your car fails an engine inspection Read Also: Simplify Parts Pricing With A Comprehensive Solution Why Do People Steal Catalytic Converters? There are many reasons why people choose to steal catalytic converters. While sometimes you can only get $50 for a converter, there are some that can be sold for thousands of dollars per ounce thanks to the precious metals that are found in them. People that are used to stealing converters can take them in just a few minutes making them easy to steal and get away. It’s an easy way to make quick cash for some people so they take every opportunity they can to ensure they take them. Catalytic Converters also cannot be tracked like other parts of the car. So people that steal it easily get away with it and the person who’s now missing it from their car has no way of getting it back. Are Certain Cars Targeted For Catalytic Converter Theft? Any car that is made after 1974 has a converter so there are many cars out on the road that thieves can target. Most of the time, thieves prefer to steal from taller cars like SUVs and trucks because they can easily go under the car and take the converter. Hybrid cars are also another target because the converters are made with more metal and more precious metals which means they can get a higher value for them when selling. The more precious metals there are in the converter, the more money the thief can get for it so they often go for cars they know that have converters best for selling. Ways To Protect Your Car Against Catalytic Converter Theft Worried about your car’s catalytic converter being stolen? There are plenty of ways you can ensure this doesn’t happen. Most are simple tricks that can be done for free. Know If You’re A Target As stated before, SUVs, trucks, and hybrid cars are all easy targets for catalytic converter theft. If you own one of these cars, you need to ensure you always follow all safety tips because you know your car’s converter can be stolen easier. Knowing that your target makes it easier to keep yourself safe and be aware of the signs that your converter has been stolen. Put Your VIN On The Converter There is no way to track a catalytic converter, so if yours is stolen it’s almost impossible to retrieve it back. This is why some people choose to put their VIN or their license plate number on their converter. This way if someone goes to sell it, the person buying it might check if the person trying to sell it to them is the original owner. If they are not, they can contact authorities and say they think the converter has been stolen. Park In Well Lit Areas Every time you park your car or go somewhere, make sure you park near the street lights. You should also try and park as close to the entrance of places as possible. If you park in an apartment complex, try to park in different areas every time so that people do not target your car as being in the same place. Install Cameras If you can, put cameras in your parking lot or outside your home. This allows people to know you have surveillance and they will be deterred from stealing the converter because they know they can be caught more easily. You can also install motion sensor lights so that every time someone walks by, the light turns on. This makes people feel like they are being watched and they will not want to get too close to your car. Paint Your Converter This often deters buyers because it makes the converter less valuable. Painting is also known as a common technique for avoiding theft so if a person tries to sell a painted converter, it looks more suspicious. Some police departments even let you go into their station and paint your converter for free. Catalytic Converters And Thieves Unfortunately, converters are easy to steal making them an easy target for those looking to make a quick buck. When your converter is stolen, you can even spend up to $3000 replacing it. This is why it’s very important to use the tips in this guide to prevent your converter from being stolen. You also need to ensure your car is insured against catalytic converter theft so that you are never stuck paying for a new out-of-pocket.
