Congratulations, you’ve finally acquired that office space you’ve always desired. This comes with a feeling of satisfaction and achievement. However, this is usually short-lived, especially when you need to start planning to renovate your new office building.

You’ve just finished one tough part—searching for the perfect office space. Now, you are entering a new part—the stress and hassle of office building renovation.

Most people tend to be overwhelmed with everything they need to do to make their new office space comfortable and attractive. However, this shouldn’t be hard for you. Setting a timeline for your office building renovation project can be the perfect place to start.

But, this is still a challenge for most people since they don’t know how long office building renovation projects take.

So, how long does an office building renovation take?

Generally, it takes an average of 3 months to renovate an office. However, you should note that the time can be longer or shorter depending on different factors. With that said, let’s look at the top factors that can affect the timeline of your office renovation project.

1. The current condition of the office building

The first thing you need to consider is the state of your office building. If it’s newly built, renovating will be much easier and faster. You won’t have many things to deal with except upgrading its interior design.

However, if the renovation project includes an old office building, it may take longer because there are bound to be structural problems that need to be addressed.

In general, expect renovations on old buildings to take from 3 months up to 6 months or more depending on the severity of faults in the structure.

2. Permits and licenses

Office Building Renovation

The last thing to consider is what you need to get a permit for renovation. In most cases, it’s going to take anywhere from a week up to two weeks before you can start renovating, depending on where your office building is located and how many permits you need.

In the case of renovation projects that involve structural changes, it may even take longer as the entire planning process will require approvals from several government departments and relevant consultants.

So, you should expect such office renovations to take months because, during this period, there needs to be time for paperwork and approvals before construction begins.

However, once everything is approved and ready for construction, workers will only need a few days at most to complete the project as long as you have made all the preparations required.

3. The renovations you want to implement

The next thing to consider is the renovation project itself. If you plan something minor like rearranging furniture and painting walls, expect it to be pretty quick within 2 months or less depending on how big your office is.

However, if you’re planning more complicated renovations that involve structural changes in your office building, then you should go for 6 months or more because this kind of process normally takes longer due to the complexity involved in managing contractors who are replacing buildings rather than painting walls or moving furniture.

4. Designing the renovation plan

Office Building Renovation

The tenant build-outs experts from AFS General say that you will also need to think about your renovation strategy when planning renovations.

If you are planning on managing everything by yourself without outside contractors, then expect it to take longer than if you work with a team of experts/a contractor who can handle every stage of the process for you.

This is because managing individual tasks in office building renovations take time – one hour or two hours here and there add up to days over weeks which eventually increases the timeline for your project.

So, keep in mind that unless you have enough time on your hands to manage tasks during an office renovation, it’s always better to get an expert or professional company to do it all for you to save time and get the job done faster.

5. The renovation process itself

The other thing you should consider is the renovation process itself. If your office requires massive renovations, it’s always better to break down the steps into several stages so that there are no delays in production. For example, you may want to first remove essential equipment like desks and chairs before demolishing walls.

This allows you to avoid having workers standing around at any given point during office renovation since everyone knows exactly what they need to do next without wasting time asking questions or looking for things they need.

You should also have a detailed plan of how many days each task will take so that you keep track of progress throughout the renovation process. This way, you can always make sure that everything is progressing as expected and there are no hiccups in office renovation.

6. The contractor’s experience

The last thing to keep in mind is the quality of work from your contractor or expert who will be doing renovations for you and whether they are a trusted company with a lot of experience with office renovation.

If this is not your first time renovating an office building, then you may already have preferred contractors who know what they’re doing and can get the job done efficiently within a certain timeline.

However, if your current contractor cannot complete the renovation process on time for some reason, it might be better to find another one so that you don’t waste any more time waiting around due to inexperienced workers taking longer than average to get the job done.

Bottom Line

Keep track of the number of days each task will take so that you keep on track with your project timeline. If you don’t have time to manage each stage of the process yourself, hire experts or professionals to do it for you since they have all the resources needed to complete tasks on time without hiccups or interruptions.

7 Ways to Clean Blocked Drains in Your Home

The drains in your home really do take a lot of abuse. Not only are things sometimes accidentally flushed down toilets and drains, but they also naturally collect all of the dust, hair, and whatever else is in the air. Over time, your pipes are bound to get clogged at some point.Clean Blocked Drains cxan make things work for you in all the aspects. Of course, a plumber can clear out a clog in a snap. But, here are seven things that you can try on your own first without using harsh chemicals which could harm your pipes. 7 Ways to Clean Blocked Drains in Your Home: 1. Find the clog: It might not be that deep. In a toilet, it's generally somewhere in the base. And, in sinks, it's often in the trap underneath it where hair and other debris will settle. There are a few different tools that you can use to attack the clog from the outside of the drain. Trap cleaner: You can find one at your local hardware store. It's usually made of plastic and is about the length of your arm. It has ridges along the sides and is designed to fit inside of your drain. You can use it to fish out anything that might be clogging the trap. Drain snake: It's the same idea as the trap cleaner, only it's longer and has a hose that rolls up, so it can get to clogs that may be deeper inside of the drains. Wire coat hanger: In a pinch? Just grab a wire coat hanger, unwind it, fashion it into a long hook, and use it to clear the trap. 2. Use a plunger: It's a basic home necessity for toilets. And, it can also be used for sinks. All you need is a solid suction and you may get the same results on a sink drain that you would with a toilet. In a sink, it might help to have a little standing water while you are plunging. 3. Dish Detergent: You can use it in toilets and sink drains. Pour it straight down the drain or into the toilet, about a quarter of a cup. The detergent will settle on the clog, and start to break it down. Let it sit for a few hours, run some hot water, and try plunging. The soap is sometimes strong enough to break up the clog. 4. Boiling Water: This would be more effective for a sink drain. Pouring boiling water directly down the drain could break up the clog. You could add boiling water, wait a few minutes, try plunging, and repeat the process a couple of times, if necessary. Just make sure the water isn't still boiling while you are plunging to protect yourself from any scalding. 5. Use a wet/dry vac: Wet/dry vacs are great for many purposes, including clearing clogs in your drain. If the clog isn't too deep, you can use it to either pull the clog out or push it down the drain. It's a good idea to try to pull it out first to remove the clog from your plumbing system. But, sometimes pushing it will also clear the clog and allow it to drain. 6. Clean the trap: If you are dealing with a clogged sink, you can usually access the trap underneath the drain. Most likely, that's where the clog will be. If you're handy with home repairs, here's a quick how-to. You'll need a plumber's wrench. Have a bucket underneath to catch the water. Unscrew the fittings on the top and bottom of the trap. Remove the trap and clean it out. An old toothbrush is perfect. Clean out the surrounding pipes. Put it back together. A plumbing company such as Red Dog knows all about unblocking drains so if you are not confident taking apart the pipes in the drain, it may be worth hiring a professional. 7. DIY Clog-removing Recipes: You may actually have a few things in your pantry that can be used to clear up clogged drains. Here a few different ideas that you can try before calling a plumber. Mix salt and baking soda: Combine equal parts of salt and baking soda, maybe a half-cup of each. Pour it directly into the clogged drain, and let it sit for a few minutes. The salt and baking soda will settle on the clog and start to eat away at parts of it. Then, pour boiling water down the drain. If there is standing water in the sink, you can also include plunging the drain in the process to get things moving around. Combine baking soda and vinegar: Mix together equal parts of white vinegar and baking soda, maybe a half-cup of each. Stand over the sink when you mix them. The reaction of the two substances will result in an almost immediate fizz. Pour everything down the drain. This one is best to let sit for a few hours or overnight. Afterward, try rinsing the drain with hot water. Sodium Hydroxide: More commonly known as caustic soda, you can find it at your local hardware store if you don't already have it on hand. You will mix 3 cups of soda with about a gallon of water. The mixture will get warmer and begin to fizz. Pour all of it directly into the drain. Wait for a half-hour or so, and pour boiling water down the drain. If it seems a little better, but still draining slowly, you can repeat the process. PVC

Top myths about PVC

Impact of PVC vs non-PVC towards the environment: Polyvinyl chloride, also known as PVC or simply as vinyl, is a plastic composed of carbon, chlorine, and hydrogen. It’s a common material found frequently in packaging, wire coatings, furnishing, construction materials, pipes, electrical wires, and also in the graphics industry. The reason that PVC is such a popular material is that it’s incredibly versatile. It’s also resistant to UV rays, chemicals, weathering, and flame resistant. Many people, however, believe that PVC has a negative impact on the environment and avoid using any products that contain this material. It’s true that there are many complaints about PVC and its effect both on people and the environment, so let’s take a look at the main issues, both for and against. 1. The manufacturing process releases highly toxic carcinogenic dioxins into the environment: There are two main pieces of evidence that debunk this belief. First is that over the past 30 years, the production of PVCs has increased 300%, whilst at the same time the amount of dioxins in the environment has reduced. Therefore, if the manufacturing process was the major cause of dioxins in the environment, you would expect that the number of dioxins would have increased accordingly. In fact, if we stopped producing PVC, the levels of dioxins in the environment wouldn’t noticeably diminish. Second, that the main cause of dioxins in the environment is not the inefficient combustion of PVC, it’s mainly due to landfill fires and to a lesser degree, the inefficient combustion of medical and urban waste. 2. When incinerated or burnt in house fires, PVC releases dioxins, chlorine, and other carcinogenic chemicals into the air: First of all, PVC doesn’t burn very well, in fact, if the source of fire is removed, PVC doesn’t continue to burn, because it contains a fire-resistant polymer. Also, many PVC products are treated with additional flame retardants after the manufacturing process and release less smoke and less heat when combusted, compared to other plastics. Second, when PVC is correctly combusted the number of toxins released into the environment is insignificant. In fact, the most harm derives from the release of carbon monoxide, which is released from numerous other materials when burnt. 3. PVC can’t be recycled therefore it accumulates as plastic waste: In most scenarios, PVC is actually highly recyclable and can be recycled many times over without degrading. In fact, many plastic products in use today contain components of recycled vinyl; some proponents believe that due to its high recyclability, PVC is actually a zero-waste material. Also, since PVC lasts longer than other materials, it doesn’t need to be replaced as often and hence, appears in landfills less often than comparable materials. In addition, the durability of PVC has led to it being used to line landfills with no evidence that the vinyl breaks down and releases toxins into the groundwater. In the graphics industry, however, PVC is currently difficult to recycle due to contamination from adhesives, additives, and print. Avery Dennison is looking to overcome this with innovative technology to separate products into raw materials, through their Liner Recycling Program. 4. PVC is expensive to manufacture: PVC is made from chlorine and ethylene, both of which are inexpensive to a source (chlorine comes from salt and ethylene from natural gas), resulting in a very inexpensive manufacturing process. In fact, when you consider that PVC products are very cheap to buy, between the retail cost of the product and the profits made by the manufacturer and reseller, the actual production costs are minimal. The result is that vinyl products consume less energy, generate fewer emissions, and save more energy during the manufacturing process than many other products. Why is PVC popular in the graphics industry? All the benefits of using PVC in the graphics industry have been stated above however, more specifically, PVC is extremely cost-effective when compared to alternative polymers. Its long life, durability, resistance to the elements and flame retardance are also major factors, but for our customers, the lower costs are a huge benefit. One of the most popular applications is for car wraps, where the vinyl provides maximum versatility.  Vehicles can look like a work of art after being wrapped with a vinyl film. The fact that PVC is readily available is another factor that cuts down costs, as well as its versatility because we can manufacture numerous products using the same materials. PVC is also an ideal material for use across all print platforms, both porous and heat stable. In summary, PVC is not the villain that it has been made out to be. Many companies manufacturing it are not only committed to sustainability but focused on using innovative techniques combined with the responsible sourcing of materials, to reduce the impact of their operations and supply chain on the environment.
