Whatsapp Drops Support For Android KitKat: Latest Updates

Being the most used messaging app, Whatsapp makes business and personal communication easy and universal around the globe. It is important that the app is available to as many people as possible because of its global reach. It is also necessary to keep in mind that different people use different operating systems on their devices.

Given that not everyone has access to Android 14, many are still stuck with older versions. The most well-known version Android 4.4, has a user demography of 0.5%. The version was a huge success back in 2013. It has remained a crowd favorite, and it has been hard for many fans to let go.

The percentage has been going down steadily over the years, especially after Jelly Bean. It completely lost the support of Google in 2021, which made it obvious that Kit Kat would be up next.

According to a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has recently released a new version that drops support for Android KitKat. This is the only compatibility change that the report mentions at the moment.

While it is unlikely that there are many people still using Android 4.4 and relying on WhatsApp regularly, this decision could help reduce maintenance overhead and improve the product for users of current operating systems.

Ending support for KitKat isn’t new in the tech world. Dropbox ended its support for the Android 4.4 version over three years ago, and Android Messages, (now known as Messages by Google), also dropped its support for this old version in 2018. While we may cherish the fond memories of Android 4.4, technology moves fast, and sometimes, it’s better to move on.

Recently, WhatsApp has been releasing a lot of updates for its Android version. One of the most significant updates is the multi-account switching feature, which allows users to use more than one WhatsApp account on one installation of the app instead of having multiple copies on their device. Besides, they are testing voice messages, stickers, and extra security features, such as hiding locked chats. As the most used messaging service, the more updates, the better.

WhatsApp Is Testing Pinning Feature With Specific Timeframe

According to the latest reports, WhatsApp is exploring the message pinning feature for the upcoming set of updates. WABeta Info has revealed, “A limited group of beta testers can now pin messages and experiment with a redesigned attachment menu.” The website further revealed, “This option allows users to pin a message to the top of the conversation, making it easier for users to highlight and access important or frequently referenced messages quickly. Additionally, some beta testers may experiment with a redesigned chat attachment menu that features a new modern style.” https://twitter.com/suarasocial/status/1711351152539791807?s=20 According to the site, this feature has already been made available to a test group using the 2.23.6.17 version update of the Android app. The latest feature is named “pin.” It shows up on the screen when a text box is long-pressed. It takes you to the settings menu, which can be found in the three-dot icon. This feature will allow users to pin a certain message to the top of the conversation. It allows easy access to frequently referenced messages. The website has also said, “It’s worth noting that pinned messages are also available in individual conversations, making it easier to highlight specific content even within private chats.” Users are set to be able to pin the message for a span of 30 days, 7 days, or 24 hours. Its A Clash For Dr Disrespect And Ninja Over Multi-Streaming: Report

Tyler "Ninja" and Herschel "Dr DisRespect" have had a clash on social media over multi-streaming. Dr DisRespect appeared to be insulting those who multi-stream on different platforms in a tweet. For those who don't know, Tyler is one of the most popular creators who actively simulcast on various websites like Twitch, YouTube, TikTok, and Twitter. Dr DisRespect is known for his boisterous antics on the stream, and his social media posts reflect his on-stream personality. In a post on X, formerly Twitter, he seemed to be calling out creators who simulcast on multiple platforms, suggesting that those who multi-stream do it because they are not good enough for one platform. "If you have to multi stream, that’s because you’re not good enough for one platform,” tweeted Dr DisRespect on X. This happened to have worked, and Tyler came up with a reply, wasting no time. It was clear to the community that Dr DisRespect's post was aimed at Ninja. SypherPK, another streamer who multi-streams, tried to spark a playful exchange between the two creators by tagging Ninja in a reply. Ninja was one of the leading creators who openly multi-streamed. He ended his partnership with Twitch in September last year to stream on other platforms such as YouTube and Kick. Additionally, the renowned Fortnite star was one of the most vocal critics of Twitch when they introduced policies that prevented streamers from simulcasting. After the Twitch CEO's announcement at TwitchCon that the multi-streaming policy would be reversed, Tyler returned to his old platform as a partner.
