purse essentials

On average, each woman owns around seven handbags. That’s seven opportunities for seven bottomless pits. If you have trouble locating what’s in your purse simply because you have too much stuff, this article is for you.

Read on, and we’ll divulge some of the purse essentials you’ll need to keep in your bag.

If all else fails, you’ll be able to get around with these few essentials. And if you’re really against clutter, make a pact to only pack the things you need, and throw out everything else.

Purse Essentials You Should Always Keep in Your Bag

1. Your Phone:

Phone

This one is a no-brainer, but every woman needs their phone in their purse. How else would you text your husband annoying quips throughout the day or find out what people are up to on Facebook on your lunch break?

Keep your phone in your purse, and don’t leave home without it.

2. Charging Dock and Charger:

Charger

This might sound extreme, but you can get small charging docks that will help you keep the power on your phone for most of the day. You don’t want to waste your time on social media to find that you don’t have a charge when you need it.

If you carry around a charger, that will most likely come in handy at work or meetings when you can get some extra “juice” to help get you through the day.

3. Makeup:

Makeup

This one is highly personal, as some women don’t wear any makeup. But if you do, you should pack your essentials. Some women pack an entire makeup bag, and if that’s your thing, then go for it.

But if you wear minimal makeup, just pack the items that you’ll likely need to touch up through the day. This might include some blush, concealer, lipstick, or lip gloss. Throughout the day, you can sneak to the bathroom to ensure your makeup looks fresh.

4. Feminine Products:

Even if you’re not expecting your period, this is a good thing to have. In all your years of being a female, you probably already know that accidents happen and periods can come unexpectedly.

You also already know that sometimes your friends need a hand, and you’ll be the savior of the office or your friend group if you have a pad or tampon.

Make sure you’ve got a few in case of emergencies.

5. Breathmints, Gum, or One-Use Toothbrushes:

This one is especially essential if you’re going out on a date or trying to impress someone.

Breath mints, gum, and one-use toothbrushes are great things to have with you, especially if you go out for dinner with a date. You don’t want to have the dreaded garlic breath after a nice romantic Italian meal if he leans in to kiss you.

With these essentials, you can pop one in your mouth on the sly, or slip to the bathroom to brush your teeth with a single use toothbrush. Then, you’ll be fresh and ready for your closeup with your date!

6. A Snack:

You might think we’re going overboard here, but you never know when you’ll be stuck at a meeting or out on a business venture and not have access to food. Or, you might just get the afternoon nibbles at your office.

Packing a snack ensures that you stay healthy, especially if you’re trying to stick to a diet or eating well. By packing a healthy snack, you can avoid temptations at work or school in the form of a vending machine or breakroom snacks. Often times, they’re sweets that offer no nutritional value, so make sure that you pack something to help you get through your afternoon slump.

7. For Bigger Purses: Your Laptop:

You may not want to take your laptop everywhere, and that totally makes sense. But if you’re going somewhere for work, you work for yourself or you have a while to wait in between appointments, you might want to bring your laptop. You can get some things done in the downtime so that you won’t have to bother with them when you get home.

This company offers stylish bags that are roomy enough to pack your laptop but aren’t so over-the-top that you can’t use them every day. They also offer bags for men so that they can stay in fashion as well.

8. Pack of Tissues:

You never know when you’ll get a runny nose, bloody nose or need a spontaneous napkin. And you might find yourself having a good cry and needing something to sop it up.

Having a pack of tissues is a great way to ensure you’re always prepared. Like the feminine products, you can always pass them to friends any time they need them, and you’ll be the hero. They’re perfect for trips to the movies or the theater, as you never know when someone is going to bust out into tears.

Purse Essentials for Your Everyday Life:

Purse essentials are different for everyone, but we feel this list builds a solid foundation. There may be items you might not find fit the bill, and other items you think are absolutely essential. Either way, try and stick to the bare bones of what you’ll need during the day to avoid your purse turning into a black hole of random stuff.

Alcoholism

What To Do if Alcoholism “Runs” in the Family

Alcoholism is a common problem that affects thousands of people across the globe. Aside from simply ruining one's health and finances, excessive consumption of alcohol can also result in the genetic transfer of the addiction to the next generation. In a Cambridge study, it was found that there is a 50 percent chance of alcoholism being transferred directly to the next generation. Alcohol addiction is a family disease and one that can be carried down for multiple generations. This is why those who have alcoholic parents or grandparents and grandparents often find themselves easily addicted to alcohol. If alcoholism runs in your family, here are a couple of things you should definitely keep in mind: Research Your Family History The first thing you need to do is determine whether anyone in your family has a prior history of alcoholism. Ask your family members and close family acquaintances if you don’t have a clear knowledge of your family history. Some of the most common signs of alcoholism include: Those who have a history of alcoholism tend to demonstrate the following traits: They’re lying about when or how often an individual drinkHe/She possesses an increased tolerance for alcoholHe/She experiences memory loss or blackoutsTremors and shakes of the body at randomThey’re having issues at work or schoolThey have a strong inclination to drink at all timesThey like to drink in secret or aloneThey’re unable to control alcohol consumptionNeglecting routines like eating and practicing personal hygiene If any of your family members have more than one of the above-mentioned characteristics then they’re definitely an alcoholic. Once you determine whether that’s the case or not, you need to make sure that the negative effects of alcohol don’t overtake your life. Drink Responsibly If you have determined that there is a history of alcoholism in your family then you need to start drinking responsibly. Start off by trying to limit your alcohol intake if you already have a tendency to drink too much. It’s best to slowly transition to an occasional drinker for celebrations only. Drinking without moderation is just a bad idea in general, and even more so when you have a family. Alcoholics are usually so busy drinking that they don’t give enough time to family members and often end up abusing them. If you or someone you know have been unable to develop responsible drinking habits for a long time then it’s time to seek help. For example, if you live in New Haven then simply search for ‘drug rehab and substance recovery services in New Haven’ to find one close to you Educate Your Children Once you’ve determined that alcoholism runs in the family, there are a lot of steps you need to take to make sure your children don’t end up with the same bad habits as you or your predecessors. One of the best ways to achieve this is by educating them about the risks of alcohol in the context of family medical history. While a lot of parents try to discipline their children as soon as they’re old enough to understand to never touch alcohol, this method often doesn’t work. Kids can and will find ways to take alcohol or marijuana at a young age, and discouraging them will only encourage them to try it out even more. So the best thing to do is to have a sit down with them to explain the bad effects of alcohol and how easy it will be for them to lose control. That way they will know where the true danger lies. Notify Health Care Providers If you have any type of long or short-term illnesses and have recently found out about the history of alcoholism in your family then you should notify your healthcare provider immediately. History of alcoholism can significantly change how treatments are carried out, so definitely let your doctor know. If you’re afraid that your healthcare provider will judge you if they find out you’re a drinker, you need to overcome this shame. They’re the best people to provide you with sound medical advice so be honest with them at all times. Don’t be Ashamed Being an alcoholic or finding out you have alcoholism running in your family can happen to anyone anywhere, so there’s nothing to be ashamed about. What matters most is taking the right steps to make sure you and your kids can avoid alcohol addiction. 5 Important Things You Need to Bring Camping

Are you one of the 40.5 million Americans that want to experience the adventure of camping? Welcome to the club: it's a fun and gritty one, indeed. Camping allows people the opportunity to thrive on a minimal amount of items. In fact, the less you have on your excursion, the better. This means lighter-weight backpacks, easier access to the necessities, and a distraction-free environment. So, what are the important things to bring camping? I mean, besides the obvious stuff like a quality tent and a love of the outdoors? This guide will sift through the volume and narrow it down to the essentials. Keep reading! 5 Crucial Things to Bring Camping : Let's try to move beyond the obvious. What handy tools can you bring that have multiple uses? Truly improve your time? Make you happy you bought them? 1. A Sleeping Pad : You've heard of a sleeping bag -- but are you missing out on a great night's' sleep because you forgot to get an inflatable pad? Blankets and bundled-up clothing just aren't the same. These guys single-handedly change the sleeping game. They blow themselves up as they unroll, and fold up easily. Go for the lightest-weight option available, and even forgo packing a pillow. Most pads have a pillow attached! 2. A Frisbee : A plate. An activity. A cutting board. A paddle. A seat. Once you put your mind to it, a frisbee can be any number of things. For a small hiking or camping trip, we highly recommend trying one of these bad boys out. Let us know if you think of any other fun uses! 3. A Bandana : Much like the frisbee, a bandana has a variety of uses. If worse comes to worst, a bandana can be applied as a tourniquet. In certain situations, it can be used to cover an area of the body, like your head, from the sun. Or you tie something together when it needs repairing. Tie it to the outside of your backpack and it takes up no room but is extremely beneficial. 4. A Fire Starter : Regardless of the temperature outside, any type of illumination is good for your trip: i.e., fire, lighters, lanterns, and the like. And if it is cold outside, starting a fire serves the added benefit of keeping you warm. Combined with a Yeti cup full of something hot, like tea or coffee, a fire starter is key to your comfort in the cooler times. 5. A Pair of Hiking Boots : However casual or strenuous your camping adventure, a pair of quality, waterproof boots will only increase your ability to enjoy your time out in the wild. Walk over rocks, hike long trails, thrive through rain and snow alike. Leave the Converse and the flimsy boots at home. Besides your hiking boots, a pair of lightweight sandals are good for getting around the campsite and making your way to the showers - but that's all you need. Get Outdoors : Camping is one of America's favorite outdoor pastimes for a reason. There's almost no greater opportunity to explore what nature has to offer us. Surviving outdoors is primal, exciting, scary, rewarding; it is everything and more than we expect it to be. Don't forget that this list isn't all-inclusive. There's so much more to camping, from insulation to water filtration, extra sun protection, and even more. Modify to suit your needs, and be minimal while also coming prepared. Of the individuals camping today, 10.5 million of them are new or return campers. Do you want to be next? Check out our travel blog for more inspiration!
