Originated in Egypt, Okra is been produced since 12th century and consumed in various different manners, like fermented, stewed and even fried. It is typically served with rice, soups and other with vegetable.

Various Health Benefits of Okra

According to research published in Jilin Medical Journal in 2005, Okra proved to have positive effects on kidney or nephropathy diseases. To perform this study, participants were divided into 2 different groups, one of which was treated with okra and others with traditional medical therapy. For 6 months, no significant improvements were seen in the medical therapy subjects, however, participants with Okra intake experienced a significant reduction in urine protein and uric acid.

Another study done on Okra capabilities to cure liver diseases published in Saudi Pharmaceutical Journal proved that Okra can protect against chemically induced liver problems. Okra was found to be having hepaprotective and potent antioxidant properties as compared to silymarin and milk thistle.

In the Journal of Pharmacy And Bioallied Sciences, a study was published that stated that extracts of okra can help protect from diabetes. They took rats with the diabetes disease and found blood reduction in sugar levels as well as normalized lipid profile levels when rats were given okra. Also found in Vitro and Vivo studies that okra is great blood glucose-lowering food and it contains fiber in great quantity.

Okra is also good to fight against cancer and proven to have effective action against breast cancers cells, however, this is only proven in preliminary lab studies. Many experts discovered that lectin (just discovered type of protein which is capable to bind to cell membranes) in Okra, really induces cell destructions in breast cancer cells.

Research has also shown okra to possess the ability to fight depression. Although some fruits and vegetables have been shown to have various effects on mood, and the ability to elevate one’s mood (flavonoids and quercetin), Okra had not made the list until recently, when researchers from Mazandaran University of Medical Science decided to examine its effect on mood. Their results showed that okra seed extracts acted as a strong agent for elevating mood, in some cases performing just as well as common antidepressants. It seems that okra’s positive mood effects can be attributed to its high total phenol and flavonoid content.

Okra like many other vegetables and fruits is also proven to be able to fight against depression. However, Okra is just recently proved to have such abilities against depression. Researchers from Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences planned to examine the effects of okra on mood. The results proved that extracts of okra seeds are a potent agent for mood elevation and in few cases, it works as good as antidepressants.

When I come across scientifically validated information that sheds light on the knowledge of our ancestors and ancients, I am never surprised. This is commonly seen with quantum physics, astronomy, health, and spirituality, where our modern-day measurements of ‘truth’ correlate with teachings of our ancient world. It’s good to see science shed light on the healing properties found within nature, as it’s a branch of knowledge we have neglected for many years now. Chemical-based health and our reliance on pharmaceutical-grade medicine have completely taken over, which is perhaps one reason why chronic illness and disease are on the rise.

Vaping Really Help

Can Vaping Really Help You Kick Your Smoking Habit?

Even if you never thought you actually would, quitting smoking probably does occasionally cross your mind every now and then, right? The whys, of course, stem from both personal and social demands… It is a health risk, that girl you were dating didn’t like the smell, etc. But what else would you do while standing around the bar? And could you even break a habit that you have been accustomed to for so long? E-cigarettes are the millennial approach to either lessening or saying no to cigs once and for all. They bring all of the satisfying attributes of smoking without the adverse health effects, smell, or social trade-offs.  And better yet, it can actually be cheaper as well as better for the environment. But the question remains: Can vaping really help you kick your smoking cigarette? No-Pressure Approach: Simply the thought of quitting smoking comes with a lot of anxiety. It’s hard, and we completely understand. Dropping it cold-turkey can leave you really sick, depressed, or in a cycle of emotional turmoil. But it doesn’t have to be that way at all. Making a trade-off with e-cigarettes, even if you just start off slow, can turn your habit around in a way that won’t feel completely forced. Most people who have used this method to quit have found that the pressure to quit is inherently gone and they feel like the transition is basically non-existent. Doesn’t that sound great? A Trade-Off: Some of us know that half of the habit is psychological, meaning that you really just need to have something in your hand that you can take a puff on. This aspect is another reason why e-cigs are an easy solution to the problem. Not only do we use cigarettes to carry our own personal habits, but we enjoy having them there during the conversation. It can seem like every social setting, especially bars, call for a cigarette. With social settings especially, it can be compelling to join the smoking crowd or step outside and even strike up a conversation with strangers while smoking. With e-cigs you will still be able to participate and not feel left out or awkward. As for culture, there really is nothing like smoking a rolled-up cig, but the e-cig generation is building, and most of us can say that it in itself is becoming closely connected to our culture. Once you get in the vape scene, you will fall in love with all of the different aspects, styles, vape flavors, and best of all, the friends that you can enjoy it with. Reduced Risks and Your Health: The bottom line for most of us is that we know smoking is very unhealthy for us. Our lungs, heart, mouth, all of it is affected by tobacco, and every day it persists is fewer days that we will see in the end. E-cigs have not rightly been proven to be healthy but they have shown results that make them much less toxic to our bodies than actual cigarettes. Most research has shown that a reduced risk of heart attack occurs when you drop smoking. Furthermore, most e-cig users agree that since making the switch, their lungs have been in better shape, which in turn helps them exercise more effectively. The overall trend moves toward feeling better each day, and that’s the part we like to hear. Attraction Is Real: We have all been on that date with that one person and had it all go down under because of the lingering, musky cigarette smell. It sticks to everything! The car, the bed, your clothes, hair, mouth. You name it. Smokers stink, and that can’t be changed. With e-cigarettes, the scent hardly lingers at all one the vapor is dissipated. Which means that your belongings are not ruined, and neither are your dating expenditures. All in all, e-cig users who have made the transition have been more satisfied than ever. Without fully submitting your lifestyle to the non-smoking cause, this is the best way to transition quickly and still remain happy. None of us are expected to change our ways overnight, but it sure does make it a lot easier when it still feels good. Pros And Cons Of Recreational Marijuana

Marijuana has always been present in society. People’s reaction and attitude towards it has been ranging from total approval to severe punishments for possession. Different countries have different regulations, but in general, marijuana is a harmless recreational drug with some, yet not completely explored, benefits to health. Regular users are maybe even apter than science to talk about its pros and cons, and how everyday life is affected. I spoke to the experts at peoplesorangecounty.com and we compiled a list of advantages and disadvantages of recreational consumption of cannabis. The Many Benefits Of Recreational Marijuana Recreational use of marijuana is still considered as something bad or negative, or people who use it are regarded as stoners who waste their life away. That attitude is not justified, as any person under the influence of any kind of psychoactive substance might leave that impression, like alcohol, nicotine, etc. Smoking marijuana is a great social lubricant as it helps people loosen up and share a range of different conversations without any mental blockade. It helps relax and allow for some healthy dialogue which can only produce a more thorough bonding between people. It is also an ‘’individual drug’’ meaning that it is great for relaxation and some quality me-time. It is great for people who want to strengthen their appetite. Since all senses are heightened, everything around you leaves a greater impression and unlocks some new levels of experiencing things you already know, like music, food, sports, or just about any activity you can think of. Creativity also reaches new heights. Sativa strains, such as Royal Queen, are specifically made to affect your brain and introduce some new ways of thinking you never knew existed before. It is a great stress reliever (in normal doses), as it helps you cope with problems by inspiring you to think about solutions rather than simply worrying. You focus more on life and the beauty of living instead of grownup problems and worries that eat your happiness away. Shy people can benefit as well since marijuana helps overcome a lack of confidence while improving social skills they never knew they had before. It helps the good side of your personality come out and shine. When taken in normal amounts, and every person has a different dose of normal, it is a recreational drug that really sparks a dose of optimism which is a great weapon to combat depression and anxiety. It is a state where both body and mind feel good and the perspective to life changes in a way that it makes you realize that some problems were not as big as you feared, and the solutions are also much more accessible. Are There Any Negative Sides? Not all users can report a great experience, and just like any other substance you intake, there are certain risks and negative side-effects. Short term memory loss is probably the most common disadvantage. It is also not recommended for teenagers to use it as it can negatively affect the development of their brain and the ability to learn new things might get impaired. As much as it produces joy, happiness, confidence and good mood, the other side of the coin is reserved for anxiety, depression, fear, and even paranoia. These can get extra potent if marijuana is used frequently and in large doses, then the recreation becomes a torment basically, and the best way to handle it is to take a break from it all. You become less reactive to your surroundings which can be problematic for people who are still not used to that feeling. Your balance, coordination, and reactions can worsen which some people don’t like at all. We’re What We Eat: How Eating Habits Affect Our Well-Being

Eating is not just about dumping fuel into the tank so we can drive another twenty blocks. Multiple psychological and sociocultural factors also dictate how, why, when, and what we eat. Varying eating habits around the world can have a significant effect on our well-being. This post aims to shine a light on some of these habits to examine them more closely. Habit One: Is Breakfast The Most Important Meal Of The Day? Cereal manufacturers are keen on the idea that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Is it true? According to researchers Tanya Zilberter and Eugene Yuri Zilberter, recommendations for breakfast eating behavior remain categorical but at the same time scientifically unsound health guidelines. If we look at the science and ignore cereal marketing, there are many benefits to eating at the start of your day. The following scientific information is extracted from the materials provided by the National Library of Medicine: Breakfast eaters tend to get more nutrients over the course of the day. They are also more likely to intake a wider range of nutrients. Breakfast has been associated with improved weight control and health indicators of cardiometabolic risk. This applies to adults and children. Studies have related breakfast eating to improvements in attention and better cognitive function, regardless of age. Remember that breakfast means different things around the world. Eating a pain au raisin in Paris is not the same as eating bratwurst in Berlin. The nutritional value of a full English breakfast is not the same as a continental. Attempting to run the first few hours on an empty tank is generally not as healthy as providing your body with some fuel. What’s important, however, is to start the day with food and supplement your nutritional intake during the day. According to the researchers whose statement has opened this section, skipping breakfast is not necessarily a big deal. People need to consider the below points: how long they’ve been without food (if two people eat at midnight and one eats breakfast at 5 am and the other at 10 am, the different fast lengths will impact their bodies differently), and whether they make up the “lost” nutrients with their eating habits during the day. However you do breakfast, take a holistic approach to diet. Consider what you eat over 24 hours. Habit Two: What Are The Consequences Of Eating Before Bed? Just as skipping breakfast is seriously frowned upon, eating late at night is typically considered a bad habit. Science suggests that eating late at night correlates with higher incidences of medical claims. While Tanya Zilberter and Eugene Yuri Zilberter found that research on skipping breakfast and studies on eating late often fail to consider how long the participants fasted, they did find solid evidence regarding the potential risks of eating late, including the following eating behavior pathologies: Elevated insulin and glucose levels, characteristic of metabolic syndrome; Distortions of body image and mood disorders; Implications on circadian rhythm. Harvard agrees. Late-night eating is bad for health. A recent Harvard study found evidence that eating late may increase hunger, which can increase the risk of obesity. If you suspect you’re about to see yourself in a statistic, you might be right. About forty percent of the US adult population is obese. More study is required on the role late eating plays in calorie intake, calories burned, and molecular changes in fat tissue. Until that verdict comes in, it looks like avoiding late-night meals may reduce incidents of cancer, diabetes, and other conditions. Habit Three: Is It Okay To Let Kids Eat In Front Of The TV? Eating in front of the television can lead to a lack of attention, which in turn can lead to missing cues regarding fullness. This habitual overeating could then cause obesity. And there’s another interesting angle to consider regarding television, what we eat, and how we feed our children. A fact-filled study into television viewing and unhealthy eating made the research-backed observation that television and food advertising influence children’s food preferences. Studies have demonstrated that child TV watchers are more likely to prefer unhealthy food in early adulthood than kids that didn’t watch television. To help kids stay healthy and become adults who make healthy choices, monitor kids’ TV intake and defend them from unhealthy, unsolicited dietary influences on screen. These tips may help you form your kid’s eating habits: Kids’ food preferences develop by age three and tend to remain stable throughout childhood. Repeated exposure increases the chance that your kids will start liking a new food. Information that a new food tastes good will increase their willingness to try it. Kids are less interested in hearing how nutritious things are. The availability of food in the home will affect food consumption. Your food access controls will influence consumption and food preferences. If your diet is healthy, your kids will be more likely to eat healthily. As kids reach middle school age and adolescence, external influences – including peers and the media – are likely to have a detrimental effect on their food choices. Conclusion We are what we eat. You knew that. Still, it’s worth delving into research to back it up. It’s easy to forget. Many of us have busy lives and take eating for granted, treating our bodies as if they weren’t some of the most sophisticated machinery on the planet. While this post provides helpful information that may confirm your healthy eating habits or inspire you to eat differently, a health professional can help you put the best into your body to get the best out of your life.
